The iconic European spec BMW M635CSi is lighter, faster, more powerful and arguably better looking than the M6 that eventually made its way to the US. With only 1,767 M6 models imported between 1987 – 89 into the US making the M635CSi even rarer and more desirable. This is the ultimate sports version of the shark nosed grand tourer designed to cruise the autobahns all day at speeds up to 158mph. Imported as new in 1985 this example has undergone full body strip down and diligent rebuild at 87k miles. The intention behind the rebuild was not to create garage-queen but to get the car back to mechanical perfection and trustworthy enough to use as daily driver or long-distance reliable GT car. Just some of the items covered during the rebuild… Powertrain: With 87k recorded miles the M88/3 engine compression and leakage figures were even and close to spec but the engine was removed and stripped to fix oil leaks. While the engine was dismantled cylinder bores were inspected and the head was reworked and all timing gears, rails and chains replaced. Upgraded chain tensioner (BMW E36 M3) fitted. All engine seals and gaskets replaced with OEM parts and valve clearances re-shimmed to spec. New heavy-duty engine mounts fitted. New OEM full exhaust with new OEM (bundle-of-snakes) equal length headers (No catalytic convertors). Headers ceramic coated to keep engine bay temps down (it works!). New fuel pump, filter and engine bay fuel lines and fuel pressure regulator. Fuel injectors sent for rebuild and recalibration. New radiator, water pump, thermostat and engine water manifolds (radiator lines) replaced with OEM items together with new temp sensors and switches. Every engine bay hose (oil,water,vacuum,air con) replaced with new OEM parts. Drivetrain: Manual ZF Getrag 280/5 gearbox 1st & 2nd gear synchro’s and main driveshaft bearings replaced. All gearbox seals replaced during overhaul. New gearbox mounts fitted. New clutch kit including friction and pressure plates and pilot and release bearings. New clutch master and slave cylinders and hoses. Short shift gear lever from BMW Z3 fitted together with all new bushings and bearings. Rebuilt and balanced driveshaft with new universal-joints (circlips not crimped), central bearing and mount and front gumbo flex drive. Limited Slip Differential rebuilt with new friction plates and all new seals. New OEM diff mount fitted. New GKN (OEM) half shafts. Suspension & Steering: All new suspension components front and rear including adjustable ride-height coil-overs with new springs and adjustable front strut plates allowing additional caster/camber adjustments (still in possession of original suspension units rebuilt with Bilsten gas shocks but not included in sale price). All-round fitted with new adjustable Koni gas shock absorbers. Heavy duty rear axle carrier rubber mounts fitted together with new pitman arms and trailing arm bushes. New stabilizer bar bushes and drop links. All front suspension components replaced including wishbones, rods and stabilizer bar bushes and drop links. Original steering pump and steering gearbox rebuilt. New steering linkages, pitman arm and tie rods. Steering column rebuilt using new OEM universal and swivel joints and bushes. Wheels & Brakes: New OEM front and rear wheel hub bearings fitted with cross drilled Brembo brake rotors. New OEM front ABS sensors fitted. Original brake calipers rebuilt with new seals and fittings, new steel braided hoses and brake pads. New ATE (OEM) master cylinder, brake booster and pressure accumulator. New OEM emergency brake cables. Wheels are Radial Styling Type 32 from BMW 5er E39 Touring M5, 8x17 Front fitted with 235/45 ZR Continental Extreme Contact Tires (95%), 9x17 Rear fitted with 255/40 ZR Continental Extreme Contact Tires (95%). Wheels have been powder coated in graphite gray and are free from road rash. Original TRX wheels minus tires included with vehicle. Original spare wheel (never used 100%). Electrical & Lighting: Rebuilt BOSCH (OEM) 90 Amp Alternator. Recent new battery. Majority of engine electrical connectors replaced with new OEM items. Engine bay wiring tidied and encased for protection. New headlights and fog lamp units (rare find). All new OEM front and rear light lenses (still in possession of original lenses in great condition but not included in sale). Body & Trim: Full respray on de-trimmed, glass-out body shell using BMW Diamond Shwartz (Black) paint. Color coded European style bumpers and all new OEM trim including grills and rear light bezels in Shadow-line (black). All new BMW and badges in platinum color scheme. Front panel, bumper, air dam and door mirrors covered with 3M clear protection film. New shaded band windshield with OEM rubber seals on all windows, doors, sunroof, and trunk and engine hood. All windows tinted (windshield milder tint) keeps inside cool when parked. Strut reinforcing braces fitted across front and rear suspension towers (body is really stiff). Interior: Original manual driver/passenger sports seats replaced by powered sports seats (still in possession of original sports seats but not included in sale price). All seats reupholstered in leather with alcantara inserts. Headliner and rear parcel shelf reupholstered in alcantara. Original carpets and mats still in great condition. Kenwood KVT-516 in-car entertainment system fitted with component speakers and slim-line powered sub-woofer (discretely mounted behind rear seat). Control unit features; FM/AM tuner, built-in equalizer, DVD/CD (movie and audio player), iPod/USB interface, Bluetooth phone integration and navigation system. Unit has 7” touch screen operation and folds neatly into existing dash housing. Color coded lighting to match standard BMW red. Ancillaries: Air conditioning converted from R12 to 134a. System dismantled and seals replaced for 134a type. New compressor, expansion valve and drier together with some engine bay hoses and fittings (works well together with tinted windows). Extras Included: Built-in comprehensive emergency first aid kit (BMW were planning for carnage on the autobahn). Metal emergency fuel jerry-can (designed to fit under spare wheel). Fire extinguisher fitted under driver seat. Valve spring carrier compression tool for removing valve shims (unique for M88/3 engine). Engine service light reset tool. Battery conditioner. Service kit including oil and air filters. Black color coded BMW kidney grill surrounds for total front black-out look. Full custom fit car cover (inside garage dust protection cover). All part invoices included together with digital picture history of rebuild.
