The issue with the Nikasil cylinder lining was related to the sulfur content in low quality gasolines in Europe in the 1980-90s.. can say with certainty that in the time that have owned the car, the car never received low quality gasoline. did find the following comment on the issue on "Bimmer Forums" and its consistent with my understanding. ??? If you happen upon car that may have Nikasil block, it is no-longer an issue. Nikasil-related failures occurred between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. So if the car is still running, idles, doesn??�t smoke, and has over 90k miles, Nikasil or not, you have nothing to worry about. In 1997, US fuel companies greatly reduced the amount of sulfur in their product. Therefore, it was, and is no longer threat to these engines.???
